Day 28 of 365

Day 28 - January 28
Roberta's at the Pier
The Saint Simons Pier Village is filled with mom-and-pop shops like Roberta's. All of its shops are owned by locals and chains simply do not exist on this part of the island. Most have been around forever and I hope it stays that way forever.

Day 26 - January 26

Highway 17 crossing the Darien River

Darien is one of my favorite towns near Saint Simons. About 20 minutes to our north, it is a town that still relies on the seafood industry as most cities up the coast were at one point. They don't take shrimping season lightly and its the main source of income for a lot of its residents. It has held on to its small town charm and hasn't sold out to commercialization. It was originally the southernmost part of the British Empire as their outpost, Fort King George. The Fort is still open today as a National Park.

Lovely Lane Chapel - Epworth by the Sea, Saint Simons
Epworth is a Christian retreat center here on Saint Simons. Affiliated with the Methodist Church, it has been here since 1950. Lovely Lane Chapel is now one of the oldest standing churches on Saint Simons and still has weekly services.
